NYIP Student Successes

Many NYIP members have won prestigious awards in contests and photo fairs or have had their work exhibited in galleries. Other NYIP members are building careers shooting weddings, press events, corporate and commercial assignments, or have received professional recognition and publication of their photos. Here are some recent NYIP success stories:

Chris Humphrey, Oklahoma
When Chris took the NYIP Complete Course in Professional Photography fifteen years ago, he did so because he was "newly married and didn't have the time for a traditional photography school and NYIP was the perfect solution." After graduating, Chris opened his wedding photography business in Tulsa. He's been a successful wedding photographer for thirteen years and has been voted "the Best of the Best" by the readers of Oklahoma Magazine for seven straight years. Congratulations!

Vidhyaa Chandramohan, United Arab Emirates
Vidhyaa has only been taking photos for eight months, but she's already had some great success. Recently, GulfNews, an UAE newspaper printed her photo of two camels kissing which she took at the Al Dhafra Festival (the world's most expensive camel beauty show). Another of her photos was selected as one of the ten best of the week by readers of the newspaper.

Janie L. Ferguson, New York
Janie has been very busy since we last mentioned her photo successes in the NYIP Blog. She had a photo published in Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Celebrate Urban Birds 2012 Calendar. She also had two photos of bald eagles published in the Corning Leader newspaper and another photo of an eagle published in Life in the Finger Lakes Magazine.

Gordon Helms
Congratulations also goes to Gordon, a recent Complete Course graduate, who took a photo of a sunrise from his front yard and it was published on the USA Today weather page recently.

Melissa Olson, Colorado
When Melissa photographed her dog Winston for an NYIP photo project, little did she know that the photo of Winston carrying the local newspaper would be chosen for the cover of her town's yearly calendar. Way to go Winston and Melissa!

Dee Harris, Connecticut
Dee, who has built a successful photography business in Danbury, CT since graduating NYIP recently did some photos for Waterbury Hospital who used one of her photos on a billboard on Interstate 84. Dee specializes in professional marketing videos, corporate head shots, commercial photography, event photography, baby & child portraits, pet & family portraits, glamor portraits, senior portraits, engagement portraits, weddings and even "love story" videos. You can see her work on her websites - www.danburyphotographer.com and www.dharrisphotography.com.

Shruthi Venkatasubramanian, New York
National Geographic published one of Shruthi's photos called "Carousel" in the December issue of the magazine on the Your Shot page. They also used a photo she took in Bali for an article on the country on the National Geographic Traveller website. Shruthi's also had great success writing travel articles (illustrated with her photos, of course) several of which have been published by the Hindu Metropolis, a leading national daily in India. One of her photographs was in a competition called The Portraits of India and was chosen to be in an exhibition in Chennai, India and published in a coffee table book.

  • Have you ever in your life seen something so fantastic! Japanese sculpture/artist fantasy worlds are brought to life in 3D. Photos and Art: Takanori Alba

The woman's somber face surrounded by smiling soft toys for Valentine's Day - and the pops of red and black - grabs visual attention. Photo: REUTERS / Majed Jaber

Many people in NYC saw three men flying through the air, but these remote-controlled "flying men" were actually PR stunts to gain attention for a new movie launch (it worked!). Photo: Thinkmodo
