NYIP Launches New Online Photo Project Submission Portal for Students

On March 25th, as a part of our mission to provide the highest-quality photography education to students all over the world, here at the New York Institute of Photography we announced the launch of a new online photo project submission portal for students enrolled in their photography courses. This update to the courses was based on a request from new and existing students, and greatly improves the speed with which students can get feedback from their teachers as they move through the course.

For years, NYIP students would mail their photo projects into the school to be evaluated by their photography teacher. The reasons for this process were to ensure students could create a print, and to provide teachers with prints so that they could evaluate photos without worrying about their computer monitors affecting the coloring or photo quality. Over the last six months, NYIP worked to build a state of the art photo upload system that allows students to share high quality photos through the web, and get feedback from their teachers on the same platform.

"The new online submission portal is the best thing to happen to NYIP’s courses in a long time," said NYIP's head student advisor Chris Corradino. "It will help students complete their projects faster, save them money on shipping, and improve the quality of the photography training that our students receive."

The online photo project submissions will completely replace the physical mail process currently in the course for all new students in both the Complete Course in Professional Photography and the Fundamentals of Digital Photography moving forward. For those students who will still require physical submissions for any reason, they will be given that option.

For more information on this new process, please contact the school at 1-800-445-7279 or info@nyip.com.

NYIP's Professional Photography Course is Coming to Latin America!

Latin America is growing faster than any other region of the world, and that economic growth is allowing more people to have internet access. What better time for an online photography course that was developed by the oldest and largest photography school in the world.

Last week, we announced that we signed a deal with LifeMex, an online education company based in Mexico City, to offer a Spanish-language version of our Complete Course in Professional Photography in Latin America and Spain. The course will be offered online, and will be available in January 2013.

"Over the years our distance education program has produced many successful photographers, including a Pulitzer Prize winner in the US," said NYIP Director Chuck DeLaney, "and now we are thrilled to have the opportunity to offer that same great photography education to a large majority of the Spanish speaking world."

This new partnership comes only a few months after our first foreign language partner, Distance Education Russia, launched their Russian-language version of the course. As we continue to grow to meet the increasing demands of photographers all over the world, we're thrilled to have found partners who are also graduates of NYIP.

If you're interested in partnering with us to offer photography courses in other parts of the world, let us know.

The Power of Photography Education

The power of photography is something that cannot be denied. Controversial, shocking, mind-blowing, eye-opening, photography can take on many forms. At NYIP, we're always looking for new ways that photography can help the world.

Last week, we were proud to announce a partnership with a group called Keeping the Smile who are using photography to heal.

Keeping the Smile is a project based in Nairobi, Kenya. Their work, to teach photography to children battling cancer at Kenyatta National Hospital as a part of their ongoing treatment. In their first year, they've already worked with 36 children, and they are starting to get more funding from outside sources as we speak.

The project was started and is being run by a man named Boniface Muthoni. We had the pleasure of meeting with Boniface in our offices here in Manhattan a couple of weeks ago, when we signed up for our Complete Course in Professional Photography.

Boniface has promised to keep us up to date on his progress and the growth of his project. We hope to share some of their stories with you here.

You can read the full Keeping the Smile press release about this new partnership on our website, here.
