NYIP's Contest Watch provides information on international, national and regional photo contests that you might want to enter. Here are the lastest photography contests to check out:

Sony The Art of Expression Photo & Video Contest 

Outodoor Photographer Magazine in conjuction with Sony are presenting this contest. You can win on of four Sony cameras plus have your winning image published in both Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo magazines. There are three photography categories you can enter: One World In Focus; The Expressive Portrait; and  All About Light, plus The Narrative Video category for videos. You'll want to head on over to the Web site, not only to learn more about the contest, but also to pick up some great tips from world-renowned photographers in videos created specially for this contest. The deadline is July 13, 2011.

 
This contest challenges photographers to capture an image of workplace safety and health and share it with OSHA. The goal of the contest is to kick off a national collaboration to raise awareness of workplace safety and health. Prizes will be awarded for the most outstanding portrayals of occupational safety and health in terms of artistic value and ability to raise awareness of safety and health to the general public. Check out their Web site for more specific criteria. Winners will have their images appear on the Labor Dept. Web site as well as having their images on display at OSHA and receive certificates.
 
 
 United Airlines in conjunction with Amigos de las Americas have launched their seventh Annual United Latin America Photo Contest and are looking for photos that capture the beauty and character of Latin America. You could win two coach-class round-trip tickets on United to a destination in Latin America. Just submit your photos of Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua Panama or Peru by June 15th.

Yes, that's right! It's a hot dog photo contest! It is summer, after all! According to the Council, ""The hot dog is ready for its close-up and we need America to help us give it the attention it deserves." Enter your photo into three categories: People noshing on their favorite dogs; Places – images of hot dog restaurants and/or photos of hot dogs being served and enjoyed in unique locations; Hot Dog Art – images of creative creatures, scenes and anything else inspired by and featuring the hot dog. You could win a $250 grocery store gift card plus have your winning photo on the Council's Web page.

Digital Camera Magazine Photographer of the Year 2011

Digital Camera Magazine, one of the UK's leading photography publications, is holding their annual photo contest in conjunction with the Royal Photographic Society. There are ten categories you can enter including Action and Movement, Creative License, Documentary, Fashion, Gardens and Plants,Travel, Landscape, Portrait and more. Prizes in each category include £1,500 plus a one-year subscription to Digital Camera magazine, and the overall winner of the Photographer of the Year title will take home an additional prize worth £1,000. There's a  £10 entry fee which allows you to submit up to 50 images and the deadline to enter is September 30, 2011.

 

Smithsonian Magazine's 9th Annual Photography Contest

There are five categories you can enter in this year's Smithsonian Magazine's photography competition: Altered Images, Americana, the Natural World, People and Travel. Winning images will be printed in Smithsonian magazine, will be exhibited in the Smithsonian Institution and winners will also receive cash prizes. The Grand Prize winner will receive a Smithsonian Journeys trip to Yosemite National Park as well. There's plenty of time for you to gather your best images to enter — you have until December 1, 2011 — but keep in mind that competition will be fierce. Smithsonian says they are looking for images with high "technical quality, clarity and composition, but also a flair for the unexpected and the ability to capture a picture-perfect moment."
 
 
The National Wildlife Federation is holding their annual photography contest. New this year, you can share your entries online with friends and family, view all entries and vote online for the People's Choice Award. There's $20,000 worth of prizes including cash, iPads and more. This year the contest includes 3 different levels of competition: Professional, Amatuer and Youth (children 13-17 years old.) Categories you can enter include Baby Animals, Backyard Habitats, Birds, Connecting People and Nature, Landscapes and Plant Life, Mammals and Other Wildlife. There are strict requirements as to what kind of images you can enter so make sure you read the rules carefully. The deadline is July 14, 2011.

Outdoor Photographer Magazine's 2nd Annual The Great Outdoors Photo Contest

Have you ever wanted to hang with the polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba? If the answer to that question is a great big "Heck, Yes!" then you might want to enter this contest from Outdoor Photographer Magazine. The Grand Prize winner will go on a Polar Bear Adventure for two from Natural Habitat Adventures, have their picture published in the magazine, plus get a host of new gear including a Gitzo tripod and a Tamrac bag. You have to enter by April 4th for your chance for this or one of the other prizes.

Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011

The deadline is looming for the Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011 photography competition. If you want to enter this British contest sponsored by London's Natural History Museum, BBC's Wildlife Photographer Magazine, and Veolia Environment, you'll have to do so by March 18th. Winners will share £24,500 in prize money, will be invited to the awards ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London, will have their photos in the Museum's exhibition, be published in BBC Wildlife Magazine and in a commemorative hardback book. The competition "seeks to promote the discovery, understanding, responsibility and enjoyment of the natural world." There are eleven categories you can enter including Animals in their Environment, Behavior: Birds, Mammals and other Animals, Underwater World, Animal Portraits, Urban Wildlife, Nature in Black-and-White. The rules of what can and cannot be entered are pretty specific and there's an entry fee too, so head on over to the contest Web site to learn more.

iExplore Photo Safari Contest

The travel site iExplore has kicked off  the Photo Safari Contest for those who love to photograph their travels —no matter where in the world they were taken.  The winner will go on a $9,000 "Classic Kenya Safari" for two as well as other prizes.The contest runs from February 8 through April 22, 2011 and is judged by a panel of nine award-winning travel photographers, media writers and as well as by popular vote.

Epson International Pano Awards

Epson's International Pano Awards is open for all professional and amateur panoramic photographers and features $25,000 in cash and prizes.Winning photos will also be featured in an exhibit at the PMA Photo Imaging Trade Show in Sydney, June 2011. There's a number of different categories you can enter depending on whether you are a professional photographer, amateur or student and whether you are shooting VR/360 'immersive' images or for photos with a minimum 2:1 panoramic ratio. There's an entry fee for this contest as well. You have until April 15th to enter.

PDN Photo Annual 2011

 

You'll have to act fast if you want to enter this contest from Photo Distric News. They've just extended the deadline to February 17th. The entry fee is steep -- we're not normally a fan of photo contests that have entry fees (too many of them just operate to make money and aren't legit) -- but this is PDN. So, if you're up to some serious competition, enter your images into any of these categories: Advertising, Magazine/Editorial, Photo Books, Photojournalism, Sports/Documentary, Corporate design, Photo Products, Personal, Stock Photography, Web Sites, Student Work or Video. The prizes are terrific too -- $20,000 worth of cash and prizes including an awards celebration in NYC, publication in an issue of PDN and on their Web site, $15,000 Arnold & Augusta Newman Foundation Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture, the Marty Forscher Fellowship Fund professional award of $3,250, and a student award of $1,750, and the Sony Emerging Photographer Award of a Sony Alpha camera, a cash scholarship, and an article in the next issue of Emerging Photographer Magazine.

Elpis Double Takes Photography Competition

Elpis the social networking and collaboration platform, is having a contest to find images of the most original, innovative and fun ways of recycling or re-using things. Their examples include "anything, in any style, that shows how things can be re-used or recycled. The more unusual or fun the better. It could be a small, everyday object like a drinking glass or handbag, or something bigger like a wind turbine made from yacht sails or a bike made from washing machine parts.". You'll need to join Elpis to enter but you could win a DSLR and other prizes. Enter by March 1, 2011.

Bissell Most Valuable Pet Photography Contest

Bissell, the vacumn cleaner company, is holding their fourth annual Pet Photography Contest, so you might want to start chasing your favorite dog or cat around the house with your camera. The Grand Prize includes $10,000 to favorite pet charity, $500 pet shopping spree, a Bissell pet vacuum or deep cleaner, and your animal photo on a Bissell box. Other prizes include a $5,000 donation to a pet charity for the second-place winner and $1,000 donations for each of the third-, fourth- and fifth-place winners. Each of the runners up will also be featured on a BISSELL pet product package and receive his or her choice of BISSELL's pet clean-up products. And, since this is one of those contests where the public can vote for their favorite pet picture, there are also weekly winners of a $25 gift card.You have until April 5, 2011 to enter.

2011 World Press Photo Contest
If you're a professional photojournalist and can provide proof of such, then you may want to consider entering the 2011 World Press Photo Contest.You'll need to act fast as the deadline to submit your images is January 17. You'll also need to carefully check the rules to see if your photos qualify, but if they do, you might win 10,000 Euros, a Canon Camera plus an all expense paid trip to Amsterdam. The contest jury comprises 19 picture editors, photographers and representatives of press agencies from different parts of the world. Categories include Spot News, General News,People in the News, Sports, Contemporary Issues, Daily Life, Portraits, Arts and Entertainment, and  Nature.year. The contest jury comprises 19 picture editors, photographers and representatives of press agencies from different parts of the world.


Renaissance Photography Prize 2011
The Renaissance Photography Prize 2011 is an international photography competition that raises money for a great cause, The Lavender Trust. All funds raised go to support breast cancer, and which culminates in a one week exhibition and celebrity private view at the prestigious Mall Galleries, London. Categories include Environment, Expression, Shape/Form, Motion and Time. Prizes include £3,000 ($,4800), a Fuji medium format film camera and additional cash prizes. Judges for this year's competition include photojournalist and music photographer Brian Aris; Philippe Garner, Senior Director of Christie’s auction house who specializes in photographs, Michael Hoppen,  a professional photographer and owner of the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London; Brigitte Lardinois who works for Magnum Photos; and Rhonda Wilson, a graphic designer and writer, photographer and author. The deadline is January 17, 2011.
