Snow Walk scene taken in December 2010 by Gavin Hoey

If you want your snowy landscape photos to be brilliant and crisp and true-to-life - as opposed to gray, bluish, and dingy - we found a good video to share with you on how to take better snow photos, including some general cold weather care tips for your camera and batteries. Thanks to UK photographer/instructor Gavin Hoey for his tips and photo sharing.

I'm a Fan of Photographer Darnell Scott

Darnell Scott, Photographer

I'm always on the lookout for photographers who produce images that draw me in and engage me. That recently happened when I came across a video interview conducted by photographer Darnell Scott. Scott's winning style and embrace of multiple from genres, from street and fashion to skateboard and landscape, takes a fresh "why not capture it?" curiosity with the world, and he's an articulate representative of the profession. In his modest words, "I bring optical promise."

Have You Ever Shot Digital Stills Using a Green Screen?

Have you ever taken digital photographs using a green screen? If so, we'd love to hear from you. Here are our questions for you; please tell us more in the form of a comment to this post.
  1. What subjects did you shoot in your studio setup?
  2. What kind of software did you use to substitute another image over your green screen? (Would you recommend this software to others?)
  3. What kind of image did you place behind your studio subject?

Here's a how-to video from Tube Tape on how to use a green screen (ChromaKey photography) and use the software program called Photokey. Click here for more info on Tube Tape's green screen equipment and setups for photographers.

Remembering Rock Photographer Great Ken Regan

Photographer Ken Regan with Bob Dylan
Thanks to rock promoter Bill Graham, a young photographer got unprecedented access to rock's large roster of legends, and a visual career took off like a rocket. Photojournalist Ken Regan died late in November (click here for the story), and the following video interview of Regan a year ago captures his story and many of his iconic images. Regan's career underscores the importance of photographers earning a subject's trust. He made his subjects comfortable and was able to shoot them at their most intimate and unguarded moments. More than a celebrity photographer, Ken Regan was a master of capturing poignant slices of humanity.
