On the Job: Fashion Photographer Gabor Szantai

Fashion, fine art, and editorial photographer Gabor Szantai takes us on the job in this video of a behind-the-scenes look at a fashion shoot he ran for UK design house Fabryan. The video, by fashion and lifestyle photographer Stephen Brockerton, does a great job of capturing the mileau of a fashion shoot - the music, the hair and make-up artists, the dressers, the props and staging people. Each member of the team makes an important contribution to what the fashion photographer is able to pull off.

Video Pick: Use Film Photography to Capture Saturated Images

Photograph by Ryan Tatar

I'll tell you what I like about today's Video Pick: I love the surfer vibe that reminds me of California in the Sixties. Even though I grew up in the landlocked Midwest, every boy and girl knew about the world of Jan and Dean and the Beach Boys, and photographer Ryan Tatar loves to capture that vibe in saturated color using inexpensive film cameras, purchased for "pennies on the dollar" in the digital camera age. The video focuses on Ryan's process and film tips.

Video Pick: Vogue's Most Influential Photographers

Self portrait, photographer Irving Penn, 1943
It doesn't do Vogue justice to describe it only as a fashion magazine. Its pages have been devoted to images that have taken the art of photography to new levels. Imagery carefully envisioned and composed by talented photographers have elevated the magazine to the heights of periodical excellence and, and images become both captivating and iconic upon publication. While the beginning of our video pick focuses primarily on Anna Wintour's tribute to the work of Irving Penn, and the intricate relationship between photographer and editor in chief, there is a survey and sharing of the works of other influential photographers from Vogue's past. Enjoy.
