One of our featured photographers is Jesse Kalisher, and we found this great video with Jesse giving in-depth advice on how to use light to your best advantage. Many of his tips boil down to having a good light strategy, getting to know the light in the location where you're shooting, and have your light plan firmly in mind even before you take your camera out of the bag. Record an Interview to Bring Your Photo Essay to Life

A picture tells a thousand words. But if you're putting together a photo essay and you're dealing with one or more human subjects, add their recorded voices to your essay to bring your compositions to life. I found a good example from the video collaborative at ABC Open Western Queensland (Australia). Their interview of octogenarian Hilton Jackson is brought to life by his voice, commenting on his amazing collection of found objects, ranging from trash to treasures. Delve into photojournalism's practice of combining still images with recorded sound to bring your essays to vivid life.
